It's a Brand New Day

It was a beautiful morning today. (Not that this was taken at sunrise on a Sunday morning... don't be silly!) This picture was actually taken on Friday morning before work... I was still asleep at 7am today, since the dog let us sleep in. But I bet it probably looked a little like this...

Eric had a wonderful idea for breakfast this morning. He even made it! He said his mom used to make this when he was a kid. French Toast with powered sugar and cinnamon.

You make French Toast as normal... and then once it's cooked, you cut each slice diagonally. Then put them in a paper lunch bag that is filled with a yummy powdered sugar/cinnamon mixture, then you shake it all up. The powdered sugar mixture coats the French Toast...

And looks a little something like this. Ours wasn't the prettiest thing ever, but boy was it delicious! And very, very sugary. Mmmm...

And this afternoon Alex had a basketball game. He's been playing in the Liverpool Optimist Club's basketball program. Until today, his team was undefeated. They were missing 4 of their players today and had beaten this team previously. I guess you can't win them all!

Alex is #5. He says he likes basketball ok... but he can't wait to be able to participate in Indoor Track next year when he gets to High School. So this will be his first and last basketball season...

But at least he's keeping busy and having fun too!

Speaking of fun, I have been super busy for the last month at work. (Hey, I can talk about work now that the blog is private!) Anyway... we revamped our morning talk show. We... err, I... created a new look for the show and they got new hosts and everything. The debut is tomorrow morning. I'm kind of excited about it. It's been a fun (but stressful) month getting everything ready. So if you live around here and can watch, check it out! Or you can check the website. www.9wsyr.com and click on the Bridge Street Link. The new look for the web will also debut tomorrow. They usually post all the segments to the web at some point after the show. I hope it all goes smoothly! And I know I can't wait to have time to take lunch breaks again... oh, wait... sweeps starts Thursday. Nevermind!

Privacy Please

I miss blogging. So I've decided that I am going to continue to blog, but I'm going to make my blog private. What does that mean? It just means that only the people who I give permission, will be able to read my blog. And all you have to do is just contact me with the email address that you would like to log into Blogger with, and I will add it to the list of approved readers. I will try to get it going again this coming weekend. Thanks for all your support! Can't wait to get blogging again!

Hiatus

I would genuinely like to thank all of our loyal readers and followers of our blog. I know that many of you check our blog every single day. I just wanted to let you know that I'm going to be taking a break from blogging for a little while. I have loved this blog and I have loved being able to document our life and share our life with our family and friends. But right now I need to take a break. It's been difficult to get motivated to blog right now, but I'm hoping that I will be back soon...

73 Days Until Spring

In case you haven't heard, it's winter and it's snowing! I don't enjoy being out in the snow or driving in the snow, but I do think it's pretty... here are a few pictures I've taken in the last couple of days. We haven't received as much snow as they have in Fulton, but we have definitely had a lot! And it's still snowing...

Isn't it funny how the snow landed on the post of the deck?

I'm thinking we might need to shovel some of the snow off the deck soon!

The Erie Canal.
Looking down a walking trail next to the Erie Canal.

I don't think any picnics will be happening here for awhile.

Doesn't this look like someone face in the snow?? It's the drainpipes running under the road behind our house. (You can see the wide shot on the first photo above.)

Peace for the New Year

No signs of Christmas 2009 remain. Today Eric and I took down the tree and the decorations and we cleaned the living room. It's a bit of a relief, but as much drama and emotion that will forever surround our memories of Christmas 2009, things could have been worse. Far, far worse. We are very lucky.

As Eric said last night, nothing we went through even remotely compares to what our neighbors went through this Christmas. On Christmas Eve, we saw an ambulance at our neighbor's house. Alex and I stood outside for a long time watching. Hoping everything was ok. Alex is good friends with one of the boys that lives there. They play outside together almost every day. Running around, playing ball, having good old-fashioned outside fun. We didn't know the parents all that well. We haven't lived here that long, but I wish now that we had made more of an effort. That little boys father died on Christmas Eve. Christmas 2009 for him will forever be the year he lost his father. And that is such a very sad memory for him to have to bare.

I think we all need to focus more on the positive things in life. Let's all take this time to love our family and friends just a little bit more and just be happy and thankful for what we have. Here's to a much better 2010, for everyone.
