Where's Waldo?

Where's Waldo Jenny?? Can you find her amongst the hundreds of thousands of leaves in the back yard? (Click on it to make it bigger.)

Yeah, I think we're in serious need of a leaf blower.

In other news, Alex's x-country team had their end-of-the-season (even though it's not over yet) banquet this evening. Pizza, cake and goodies for all! (The last meet is early on Saturday morning in the Adirondacks... anyone want to go??)

Boo!

I feel like a little kid with my latest obsession! A few weeks ago, Target had BooBerry Cereal on display and on sale, so I bought a box on a whim. Then remembered how delicious it was. Kelsey was also quite taken with the cereal, so the box went quickly! I went to buy more a week later, and they were out. And no other stores carried the cereal. I looked everywhere. I discovered that they only sell the cereal at WalMart and Target during the month of October.

Well, this morning I was running some errands (I have the day off!) and saw a display of BooBerry at Target again. So I picked up FOUR boxes. (They were having a clearance sale!) Yes, I know. I should make an appointment with the dentist asap! I don't think BooBerry quite made it to the list of healthy cereals.

Farewell, Little Guy

This morning we had to say goodbye to Dobie the Cat. He lead a great, long life...

He was always there when you needed a good "hug".

He was always VERY patient... even when we brought home that other animal, Maynard. (Dobie is the one on top.)

And his patience was tested even further with the arrival of Alex... although for awhile, he just thought he got a new bed.

He also endured move after move after move...

But always had a place to lay in the sun, wherever he lived.

And was loved by many. Goodbye, sweet Dobie! You had a good life.

The SU Room

This weekend's project was to paint Alex's room. If you can't already tell by the photos, he's a big S.U. fan. He's been accumulating S.U. themed everything over the years. It's nice that he has a room to match all of his belongings. He decided to have 2 walls painted white, one orange...

...and one blue. Just to mix it up a little. (If you look close, you can see him in the mirror...) Oh, and we do plan on replacing that old gross fake wood closet door. It's on the list of things to do... It will look a million times better with a nice white door.

Here's a view of his desk. It hasn't been this clean since we moved here. Now maybe he can do his homework there. Ha!

This is a view of the other white wall. That is the Red Sox/Patriots wall. Notice the old dresser. That used to be my brothers when he was little. It was brown when it came into my possession. It's now white and S.U. Navy Blue. If you'd like to see what the room used to look like, the "before" photos are here.

Now I'm done with the kids' rooms! What should I do next?!

Sneak Peek

Here's a glimpse of the project I've been working on this weekend...

Can you guess what I've been doing??

Hot Diggity Dog

I bought Jenny a Halloween costume today. (Don't judge me!) Isn't it kind of cute though?!

She was very much annoyed by the whole thing.

And quickly figured out that if she walked under the chairs at the kitchen table...

...that it would slide right off of her.

Fall Decorating & Dog Years

Show Us Your Life:
Fall Decorating!

I posted this originally a few weeks ago, but thought I'd submit it for the Fall Decorating Show Us Your Life post over at Kelly's Korner. I loooove Fall and I love decorating for it!
----
I decorated the house for Fall this week. It still feels like summer though, but that's fine by me! I figured I wouldn't have this much free time after the weekend, so I'd get it all done now.

Even the outside got a little bit of a face lift. I'll get some pumpkins too... a little closer to Halloween.

I got this cute sign at Hobby Lobby yesterday.

Here's a photo of the inside... I went a little crazy. I think I might have more Fall decorations than Christmas decorations!

I love decorating the hutch in the dining room. And doesn't the new wall color work nicely with the Fall colors??

And look who turned 3 yesterday! (Um... that would be Jenny, not me...) Do you know how hard it is to try to get a self-portrait with a crazy dog?? Well, Jenny is now 28 in human years, so hopefully, eventually, she'll calm down. (I looked up the dog-year thing, I've always wondered how old they really were! It's not 7 years to every year as I always thought it was.)

* * * Be sure to head back to Kellys Korner for more fall decorating! * * *

The Professional

And here are some Fall scenes from the professional photographer...

Be sure to click on them to see them bigger.

My little Cannon Elph can't take pictures like this. Aren't they gorgeous??

More Fall Photos

I have nothing new to blog about today, so I'll just show more pretty fall pictures... here is an ear of corn left on a corn stalk.

I drove past the same area on the Erie Canal today during my break that I drove by a couple of weeks ago. It's about peak foliage there now...

Here it was exactly 2 weeks ago today. Barely showing any signs of fall. Isn't it funny how quickly things change.

Thanks to those who left comments or sent emails regarding my interest in learning to knit. I'm hoping to get to a craft store in the next couple of days to explore my options! I'll keep you posted.

Knit Wit

Here's a view from our kitchen yesterday morning. It's dark when I get up now. I don't like that, but before you know it, the sun is rising... and it's beautiful. Although, it also means winter is getting closer. And closer.

And speaking of winter, I think I'd like to start a new hobby. I need something to do in the evenings, besides watching TV and trying to stay warm. I'm thinking of taking up knitting. I have no idea why, it just sounds warm. And interesting. And I like scarfs a lot. Maybe I could knit a scarf. Does anybody knit? Is it easy? Where should I start?!

Menu Plan Monday

Last weeks menu plan worked very well for us. We ate every meal (except the Saturday night one, we went out to eat instead). I really enjoyed not working this past week. It was nice to be able to make a nice dinner without being rushed or tired or coming down from a stressful day.

However, reality returns and here's this weeks menu plan... as I go back to work. Notice a few "easier" meals return.

Sunday: BBQ Chicken (on the grill!), mashed potatoes, baby carrots
Monday: Ground Beef Stroganoff over egg noodles, green beans
Tuesday: Stove Top Chicken Skillet Bake with sweet potatoes
Wednesday: Ham Steak, rice, mixed veggies
Thursday: Chicken Quesadillas
Friday: Pizza
Saturday: ??

Fall In CNY

Eric and I drove around the area today to take some fall photos. We started at a corn field near our house. They had just cut a lot of the corn back.

Then we went to an old cemetery. It was a gorgeous sunny day today.

And the foliage was beautiful against the perfect blue sky.

After the cemetery, we went to Abbott Farms. We bought a small bag of apples, then walked around the orchard and pumpkin patch.

Saw a big crate of Indian corn.

I love the contrast of the corn stalks against the sky.

Scene from the pumpkin patch.

After all that fall touring, I was in the mood to bake... so I made some sugar cookies. They were delicious!

Relax

I've had a pretty productive week off. I feel like I have yet to relax though. Tomorrow might be the day for that. After I get the haircut that I've been desperately needing. Other than that, I have nothing planned, no appointments, no projects in the works. Just some good old fashioned relaxation. Maybe some TV watching, some cookie baking, some sitting on the couch, some coffee drinking, some relaxing.

And that's it.

And with that, here's a quick recap on what I've been up to while on "furcation".

1. Attended a cross-country meet.

2. Watched "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" and "Adventureland".

3. Went golfing.

4. Went to a mall with teenagers.

5. Went to a fabric store.

6. Went to 3 different Wal-marts in 60 minutes.

7. Painted a room.

8. Got new tires.

9. Forced to watch the Wendy Williams Show in the waiting room of the tire store. (Who is Wendy Williams? And why does she have or need her own show?!)

10. Made banana bread.

11. Ate banana bread.

12. Went to a tennis match. (Froze and went home.)

13. Attended a lecture on alcohol & drug abuse among athletes. (Mandatory school thing.)

14. Watched FlashForward. (If you're not watching that show, you should be!!)

All that plus multiple drop-off and pick-ups of children, making dinners, cleaning the house, and doing 16 loads of laundry... phew! When can I go back to work to relax a little bit?!

Pretty in Pink

I've been promising the kids that we would paint their rooms. Kelsey got to go first. She opted for pink, of course! I was skeptical at first... but it's starting to grow on me. It's very vibrant! She helped paint the entire room, both coats. Even helped tape up the molding too.

Alex got into the fun too. He even put on his pink shirt for the occasion...

Ta-Da! The after shot. Isn't it fun?! I love the purple accent color. That was all Kelsey's idea. We found the comforter online at Walmart.com, and after trips to 3 different Walmarts in the area, I found the full-size version.

Here's another view of the newly painted room. What do you think? Is it a big improvement from the "before" shots??

Hayden House Projects

Yesterday I accompanied Paula to "The Fabric Mill". She's re-doing her kitchen and needed some fabric for some curtains. It was a neat place, I'd never been before.

There was a TON of fabric. I'm usually just a Wal-mart or Target curtain buyer, but boy, there were lots of amazing choices there. I won't show the material she chose, I'm sure she'll want to post it over at her blog when she's done...

And a project that we're doing this week at our house involves the above can of paint. I'm not going to show photos yet until the project is complete... but I can bet a lot of you can guess what we've been painting! I'm hoping to be done with everything tomorrow, so I'll post the before/after photos then.
