Tuesday Evening Update

Eric had a good day today. He ate 3 meals. For breakfast he had some Cream of Rice cereal and a banana. Lunch was leftover Egg Drop soup and for dinner he had some chicken noodle soup. And then he had some vanilla pudding. He had some chocolate that he got for Christmas too. Oh and he also had a bunch of gummie bears. And with all of that, he has yet to have a bowel movement since this morning. Which means it all stayed inside. He seemed to have a little bit of energy when I got home from work, which was nice to see. He's now playing on his tablet. Something he didn't do at all last week. It's nice to seem him getting back to his normal self.

Going back to work was strange for me. I felt like I was in a daze. But within a couple of hours, I was feeling better about everything. And when I got home from work, I made dinner. Which is something I didn't do for 9 days. I love to cook and it was great to have a home cooked meal again. I think Alex was happy about that too. He was a big help last week taking care of Jenny, running errands and doing chores for me. It was nice not to have to worry about all of that.

Next Wednesday Eric has an appointment with his oncologist to discuss the next steps. Eric is having some reservations about continuing with the chemotherapy as it is right now. The doctor would like to discuss other options and talk about pros and cons of continuing vs not continuing. I believe some changes are needed. The dosages could be lowered, which might be all that is needed. We'll have to see what the doctor has to say. In the meantime, we look forward to continued improvements.

Tuesday Jan 3 - Morning Update

Eric had a good night. I think he slept better than I did! Which is good. He needs it. He went 11 hours without having any bowel movements, which was fabulous. That means the pills are finally working. He did pee 4 times throughout the night, but that's a good thing. Those fluids in his legs, feet and abdomen need to go away. Hopefully some of it did.

I'm going to go to work this afternoon. Looking forward to being a little normal again. Eric will be resting and taking it easy. I'll try to update this evening.

Home Sweet Home

Eric is home. First thing he did (aside from giving Jenny big hugs and kisses) was to take a shower. Then I made him some egg drop soup, which he was craving.

Since he pretty much missed Christmas, he finally got to sort through all the goodies he got.

He's still having issues with diarrhea. It makes me kind of nervous. But he is drinking a lot and eating some. He's on some pretty strong immodium type of drug. But it just isn't working like we'd hope. Yesterday seemed to be better. Hoping he improves as the night goes on. I know neither of want to go back to the hospital.

Monday Morning Update. Day 8.

Here's the smiling face of a man who gets to go home today! After 8 days, he is finally healthy enough to go home. He has come a long way since this time last week.

His potassium is still a little bit low, so he's getting another 4 hour infusion of that. Then he'll get to leave. So we may be home for dinner.

Sunday Evening Update

Eric and his constant companion for the last 7 days. He'll be sad to see it go. He's hoping he's done with it and we're really hoping he can go home tomorrow. Fingers crossed he has a good night and that his potasium and phosphate numbers all come back good tomorrow.

Sunday Afternoon Update

Today Eric had a nice treat from Dunkin Donuts.

And I had a nice treat from Jimmy John's. I'm not sure which of us was happier.

Eric's friend John stopped by for a visit. John has been such a great friend to Eric through all of this.

The weather was lovely on this first day of January.

I left the hospital for a little bit this afternoon to go for a walk and to pick up coffee and lunch. This is Marshall Street right next to the Syracuse University campus. It's usually hopping with college kids. But it's Christmas break and it's a holiday to boot, so it was empty.

Here's a shot of the front of the hospital on the way back from my walk.

And breaking news... Eric just went to the bathroom and only had to pee. That's the first time in 8 days that he's been able to do that. And he said it was clear. Which means he's hydrated. All good things.

Sunday, January 1, 2017

Happy 2017! We've already had some nice improvements this year. Not only did Eric get to clean himself up this morning and put on some fresh jammies, he also shaved and put on his new Christmas hat that Santa brought him.

On a health note, his potassium levels are finally on the rise. Slowly, but they are going in the right direction. He has also slowed down the bathroom trips considerably. He went 4 hours between his last 2 trips. The swelling in his legs/feet is still pretty bad, but he did lose a pound since yesterday. Hopefully that was a fluid loss. At least it didn't go up.

The doctor was here this morning and he said if things continue to improve, Eric might be able to go home tomorrow.
