Cape Cod 2010, Day 4

Alex and I took a trip by ourselves to Martha's Vineyard. The big boys went into Boston with Vic, who had a gig to perform. The other women and children also did their own thing. (I'll post photos from Vic's gig next week when we get back, Eric took some really nice ones.)

This is the approach to Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard.

Alex really wanted to rent bikes, so we did. I must say it was a LOT of fun! A little hot... but a lot of fun. I pretty much let him lead the way, wherever he wanted to go.

Our first stop was this lighthouse. This is the one we saw on the way into the harbor. It's called East Chop.

Here I am with a beautiful ocean background... on a perfect afternoon. (Doesn't Alex take a nice photo?)

Here's Alex pointing out the lighthouse.

We rode back down to the harbor.

Where I ate the most amazing Lobster Roll ever.

We ate a place called "Nancy's", this was the view from our table.

Then we came across the Gingerbread Houses. We felt like we stepped into an episode of the Twilight Zone. There were hundreds of these little cottages.

They were so adorable. And each a little bit different.

The woman who owned this house let us sit up on her porch and she told us the story of the cottages. Apparently back in 1800's, they had Methodist Camp Meetings in this town, which was called Wesleyan Grove at the time. People used tents and would flock to this town for several weeks at a time, every year. Eventually, the little cottages replaced the tents and became permanent summer homes. They are all owned by people and are not rented out to tourists. There is a huge outdoor church in the middle of all of the cottages where they still hold worships. And they allow all religions now, not just Methodists.

It was one of the neatest things I've ever seen!

After touring the cottages, we went to an Aquarium.

These were our bikes. I absolutely loved mine! It's so much easier to ride then the one I have at home.

When we got back from the Vineyard, we had another wonderful cookout at Mike & Melissa's cottage. Heather prepared some appetizers and side dishes.

Another great dinner! Pictured are Chris, Dana, Ben, Alex, Evan and Heather.

Eric having a nice conversation with Dana and Henry.

The boys all together. Mike, Vic, Eric and Chris.

Gorgeous campfire on the beach. (Melissa and Mike are pictured behind the giant flames.)

The kids play their Nintendo DS's by the campfire.

Eric's giant burnt marshmallow. Just the way he likes 'em!

Great photos. I feel rested just looking at them. Greg and I went to the Vineyard years ago, pre kids. Could be time to do it again.
